Broken Spoke Express

Imagine if our Two Hour: Pump Tech Express & Two Hour: Thunder Mountain Express had a baby… They would call it the Broken Spoke Express!! This challenging technical masterpiece combines the hardest parts of both of the aforementioned rides together, to create a mega-adventure classic, with some of the most continuously heads-up and pumpy riding in Sedona. 

The ride starts up the techy switchbacks of Thunder Mountain Trail, where a mixture of sharp switchbacks and steep droppers make for some enjoyable physical pedaling to get warmed up. The next stage of challenges comes in the rock gardens, deep drops, and sharp corners on the rapidly descending Teacup Trail. The spectacular views of Coffee Pot Rock, Sugarloaf Rock, Ship Rock, Steamboat Rock, and Mitten Ridge make it work the dab to take in the impressive views of Red Rock Country along the way. After surviving the steep staircases of droppers you’ve just laughed through, the next section of trail presents itself in the form of Jordan Trail. 

Along this section of riding you will see some amazing red rock rollers, and a mixture of hills that make your tummy tickle. While enjoyable throughout, the demanding nature of this riding emphasizes the moderate hills through this section and makes reaching the top of each progressively higher summit all the better. After gushing over how spectacular your ride has been up to this point, the next section brings you back into the ditches and into the rough to earn your next summit. Through a series of punchy drainage crossings and leg burning micro climbs, you will eventually curse your way to the top of Jim Thompson Trail. 

The proximity of this trail to Secret Mountain Wilderness and overall low usage of this trail will provide a ton of wildlife sightings and big opportunities to be the thunder in the chunder. You will enjoy a countless amount of fast hills and loose corners, before reaching a jackhammer finish down the last sections of Jim Thompson Trail to Wilson Canyon Trail. The glorious finish along the crisscrossing drainages, and technicolor landscape before you -- will leave you breathless, vigorously happy, and handsomely rewarded with one of the best rides in Red Rock Country.
